Another try

Yes, I fell off the wagon again… Was doing good through January (even though I wasn’t posting) until the family went hiking in early February. I was doing good for that weekend, but a day or so later I realized I screwed up my knee pretty bad. Did I go to the doctor you might ask? Of course not, I am to hard headed for that… I am going to my GP on Monday for a normal checkup an will mention it then. I am pretty sure surgery is going to be necessary.

I did finally weigh-in this morning at 345. A gain, but it could have been worse considering how little exercise I have been able to do recently.

I am back to counting calories as of this morning using the myfitnesspal.com app for my IPhone, and will attempt to post here the total calories everynight since I can use the phone to post to the blog as well.

Sunday means weigh-in day!

Not a bad start if I say so myself!

I did pretty good this week on eating, had more calories than MFP suggested on Sunday on Monday, but fell into a groove from Tuesday on and was under each day:

Sun – 2572
Mon – 2933
Tue – 1989
Wed – 1833
Thu – 1539
Fri – 1950
Sat – 1848

I did take my lunch everyday except for Thursday, but I ended up at Subway to try to keep it light and ended up with 1095 calories by getting a Roasted Chicken on wheat (12 inch), Baked Lays, and a Powerade…

I will admit to not walking as much as I said I would, but at least did get in 2 days of 35 and 45 minutes. I will try as hard as I can to beat that total this week if the weather cooperates (calling for a winter storm here in Metro Atlanta tonight and the next day or so).

All that said, 14 pounds is awesome! I think I can get at least another 10 this week if I can keep going like I am. What do you think? Under 300 here I come!

New Start

Wow, it’s been a long time since I last updated this site… Shortly after my last post I lost my job and some motivation. I found another job after about 1 month of looking and so far have been happy with that change. It has meant a change from an office job to retail and standing on my feet all day everyday, which is a good thing I guess.

In the last year and a half I did not lose a lot of weight, but I also did not gain back what I had lost. I managed to get down to 319ish, but here recently have rebounded back to 349…

I did finally breakdown and go to the doctor for a physical and was pleasantly surprised that the results were what they were. Mild high blood pressure, and barely high cholesterol, but no diabetes which is what I was kind of worried about.

So here we are on January 2, 2011 and I am making another new start. 349 pounds and a goal of 225 by year end. I am going to take my lunch to work everyday so I can control better what my intake is. I pledge to walk in my neighborhood at least 4 nights a week or more, and I will try to walk at lunch time at work if the weather cooperates.

339.8 to be exact!

5.8lbs this week and it feels great! I was lax on walking again but that will change, already did my walk tonight, 44 minutes and about 2 miles…

I also smoked a turkey breast this evening so the wife and I have lunch meat for this coming week, tastes great.

08/23 Weigh-in

Just 2 pounds this week. Down to 345.4 .

Was pretty good this week, didn’t walk as much as I wanted to (only 4 days instead of the 5 I try to each week). Saturday was my downfall, I had 2 fantasy football drafts that day. The first at my house was okay, the second was at a friends place with about 5 or 6 other people.  Pizza and BBQ were served (I took the BBQ). I was good on the pork, but ate a bunch of pizza since that is my major vice. I was good though and only drank water, and a bunch of it, probably had 7-8 glasses in the 3-4 hours I was there.

This week is back at it hard again and I hope to see 330′s this coming Sunday.

New Belt

Well, new/old belt… After being on the last (tightest) hole on the belt I normally wear for months, I have broken an old belt out of the closet where it has hung for years this morning.

Part of the reason it happened today is my own laziness. I have not had time to do laundry this week and my only pair of size 42 shorts are still dirty from last Friday and I had to go to a pair of 44′s. That would be fine, but they will not stay up even with my old belt, and I can’t walk around the office holding up my drawers…

I could have added a hole to the old belt, but figured that would not help motivate me since there would always be more holes that were looser. I tried on this belt and just barely got it to fit on the tightest hole! I figure this way I can’t get any bigger or else, and it will be great to see how fast I can work my way through this one.

5 lbs!

That’s right, 5 lbs down this week! I have walked in the neighborhood every night except for Friday and have kept my calories at or below the 2290 that myfitnesspal.com says I need to keep up a 2+ lbs per week loss.

I have found that by entering in my meals on MFP before I eat them and seeing what I am about to put in my body, that I am watching what I eat a little more than I used to. I am still eating the same things for the most part, have not had any fast food in the last 2 weeks, but that is more the lack of money than anything. The only times I have let myself eat out have been to Subway twice for Roasted Chicken Breast on wheat and once to the local Chinese place for some sesame chicken.

The walking has been great, I really don’t dread it at all. In fact I have been kind of hoping for some rain one evening to help it cool things down, but so far nothing but a quick 5-10 minute drizzle on Thursday night.

I am hoping to start playing some basketball this coming week in addition to the walking to help burn off even more calories. Mostly just shooting hoops in the driveway, but I have also asked a friend if he is up for coming over about once a week for some one-on-one to burn even more.

Last but certainly not least, it looks like I have gone down almost one pant size already. When I started, I wore a loose fitting 44 waist, and had been able to once in a while squeeze into a pair of 42′s. This last week I have been able to comfortably wear the 42′s every day and am going to pull out a couple more pairs in that size that I have in the back of the closet. My shirts are still 3XLT, but they have been feeling a bit looser at least. Makes me kind of glad that I have kept most of my old clothes so that I won’t have to go and spend to get more for a while, I have a few pairs of jeans in each size down to 38′s  and pretty sure I have a few 2xl shirts hanging around as well. Once I get below those, I will be happy to go buy more.

1st week down

4.2 lbs! Was hoping for more, but it is a good healthy start.

I logged my food everyday on myfitnesspal.com (public if anyone cares to see what I had) and have walked everyday for at least 30 minutes, except for Saturday night. Had friends over until late…

All that and my oficial weight as of this morning is 352.6 .

340′s next week! I promise…

Good first day…

Today was a good start on the new me. I ate roughly 1,500 calories (way below what I used to for sure) and walked about 2 miles tonight with my wife, son, and dog.
I happened across a very cool website as well that looks like it will help me tremendously in my journey: www.myfitnesspal.com At their site I am able to track my progress by entering my starting stats and my goals. I can also track my eating and my exercise to see how I am doing pretty much in real time. There is also a forum with loads of very supportive people, some of which have already stopped by here and given me encouragement just today.

356.8

Hi, I am fat. Have been fat for just about as long as I can remember and there is no one to blame buy myself.

It is time to change my life. I am 32 years old, married and have an 18 month old son that I want to see grow up. I have always been “allergic” to the scale, never wanted to see what that number was that came up. I don’t know exactly what my heaviest was, but think it was probably about 385ish… Yesterday (Aug 2, 2009) I weighed in at 356.8 lbs, better than it was, but still way too much.

This will not be a blog about any fad diets, just exercise and eating better and less than I do now. I will not eat rabbit food just to make a number… Real food, normal portions (not huge like I have forever…)

What I plan on this blog being for now is a place for me to post everyday what I am doing to lose this weight and keep it off for good. I will tell you what I ate and what kind of exercise I do that day. I am too poor at this time to go to a gym, so I will walk in my neighborhood every day, rain or shine, and use the cheap home gym I bought a few years ago as much as I can. Weigh in will be every Sunday morning and I will post a picture of the scale that day.
Any help in the way of comments for other ways to work out will be greatly appreciated as anyone reading this will be my motivation and accountability to get this done. If you have a blog of your own, please send me a link. I would love to read and get inspired by others.

I have read that a written goal is a good way to motivate oneself, so here goes… Overall, I want to see 225 lbs, I think that would be a good fit on my 6’2″ frame.  For shorter term goals, 299 by Halloween (57.8lbs in 69 days) and 250 by New Years (106.8lbs in 150 days). Can I do it? I think so, especially with your help!
